Dylan, a seventh grader, had been looking forward to the volleyball game all week. He was determined to help his team win, especially since he was running for student representative. But during the game, things didn’t go as planned. When it was his turn to set the ball, he misjudged the timing, sending it flying out of bounds. His teammates’ disappointed faces and the opposing team’s cheers made him feel humiliated. He couldn’t shake the thought that this mistake would ruin his chances of becoming student rep.

After school, feeling down, Dylan decided to visit his favorite ramen shop. He found comfort in the familiar setting and chose a window booth. He ordered Tsukemen, the Japanese dipping ramen with the signature pork broth brewed in-house for over 60 hours. As he waited, he read the animated instructions on the menu about how to eat Tsukemen, which always brought a smile to his face.

Dylan loved everything about animation, and Japan was his favorite vacation spot. He and his dad had visited Japan during the summer, and the memories of that trip suddenly flooded his mind. He remembered the bustling streets of Tokyo, the cat cafe, and the delicious food they had shared. The thought of those happy times made him feel better.

By the time his Tsukemen arrived, Dylan’s mood had lifted. He dipped the noodles into the rich broth, savoring each bite. The warmth of the food and the fond memories of his trip to Japan helped him forget about the volleyball game. He realized that one bad moment didn’t define him, and he felt ready to face whatever came next, including his run for student rep.

As he finished his ramen, Dylan smiled and whispered, “Arigatou papa!”
