“How many great restaurants can there really be on the Upper East Side?” Amanda wondered as she scrolled through Yelp reviews. When she found a Thai spot with a 4.7 rating, she convinced her friends Dylan, Chloe, Sophie, and James, who were all exhausted from their long hike in Central Park earlier that day and desperately wanted a place to sit down and enjoy some Thai iced tea.

They started with Crab Fried Rice Lava, and the five-star dish didn’t disappoint. Huge chunks of crab and runny egg on perfectly fried rice, paired with a punchy seafood sauce. “This might be the best crab fried rice I’ve ever had,” Chloe said, taking another bite. Next came the Kang Pu, crab meat with thin vermicelli noodles covered in red curry.

Dylan, always the adventurous eater, loved the Nuer Toon Mor Fai, a beef soup that surprised him with its rich, spicy broth and tender beef. “This is like the best version of beef noodle soup,” he said, slurping up some broth.

The Kua-Kling Nuea brought a fiery kick, its aromatic southern-style curry with minced beef perfectly paired with sticky rice. The boys, ravenous from their long day, eagerly devoured the dish in front of them. They barely paused to breathe as they shoveled the food into their mouths.

Meanwhile, Sophie couldn’t stop raving about the Goong Gaew, raw pickled shrimp served with pickled garlic and mint. “It’s so refreshing and briny,” she said.

Finally, they all shared the Mango Sticky Rice, two large, sweet mangoes with perfectly sticky rice. “I’m coming back just for this,” James grinned.
